Find the small hole that houses the backup/emergency metal ignition key. Inject the blade of a screwdriver or pry bar tool into this slot and gently pry open the back of the key fob. After you have opened the fob, locate and remove the CR 2032 3V battery. Replace the battery, then snap to the fob.

Note: Some older Volvo models have an entirely different type of battery that is the CR2025. CR2025 batteries are 7 10ths of a millimeter smaller than a CR2032 battery, and you must be cautious about the placement of the replacement.
